Ramathibodi Hospital has paid 278,500 baht in compensation to a patient who went blind in one eye because of medical malpractice.

Papawee Rodkaew experienced problems with the retina of her left eye and underwent surgery three times at the hospital between March and April last year. The hospital later offered her free surgery to remove a cataract in her right eye, however Papawee turned down the offer and filed a complaint with the Foundation for Consumers in November last year.

Hospital director Than Supatpan eventually agreed that the hospital would pay the patient compensation for her loss of eyesight.
