แปะก๊วย (Ginkgo biloba)

Ginkgo herbal medicines may increase seizures in people with epilepsy.
Restrictions should be placed on the use of Ginkgo biloba (G. biloba) because of growing scientific evidence that Ginkgo may increase the risk of seizures in people with epilepsy and could reduce the effectiveness of anti-seizure drugs, a new report concludes. The article appears in ACS’ monthly Journal of Natural Products: “Ginkgo biloba and Ginkgotoxin.” It also suggests that Ginkgo may have harmful effects in other people after eating raw or roasted Ginkgo seed or drinking tea prepared from Ginkgo leaves. แปะก๊วย (Ginkgo biloba) เป็นสมุนไพรที่มีมาตั้งแต่โบราณ ว่ากันว่าเป็นพืชโบราณที่มีความเป็นมาตั้งแต่ 270 ล้านปีก่อน โดยเจ้าสมุนไพรชนิดนี้มีต้นกำเนิดอยู่ในประเทศจีน และถูกนำมาใช้ในแพทย์แผนจีนติดต่อกันมายาวนานกว่า 5,000 ปี ในอดีตแพทย์แผนจีนจะนิยมนำแปะก๊วยมาใช้ในการบำบัดอาการไอ หืด และภาวะภูมิแพ้ ซึ่งโดยส่วนใหญ่นิยมนำมาสกัดหรือใช้ในการรักษาโรคมากที่สุดคือส่วนของใบ แต่คนก็นิยมนำเมล็ดของแปะก๊วยมาเป็นส่วนประกอบในอาหารต่าง ๆ มากมาย เช่น ขนมหวาน หรือบะจ่าง โดยเมล็ดแปะก๊วย 100 กรัม มีคุณค่าทางโภชนาการสูงมาก
