Every day over 90% of the world’s children under the age of 15 years (1.8 billion children) breathe air that is so polluted it puts their health and development at serious risk. Tragically, many of them die: WHO estimates that in 2016, 600,000 children died from acute lower respiratory infections caused by polluted air.

According to a new 2021 Stanford-led study, children exposed to air pollution, such as wildfire smoke and car exhaust, for as little as one day may be doomed to higher rates of heart disease and other ailments in adulthood.

This study confirms previous research that bad air can alter gene regulation in a way that may impact long-term health – a finding that could change the way medical experts and parents think about the air children breathe, and inform clinical interventions for those exposed to chronic elevated air pollution.

On the occasion of World Children's Daytoday, let's lend our voices to protect children who represent Thailand's future. Do consider supporting the citizen-led Draft Clean Air Act through this link (in bio) change.org/CleanAirActTH
