Meet Rufio, a school therapy dog that is trained, certified, and fully vaccinated to work alongside students and teachers in educational settings.

Rufio provides emotional support, comfort, and a calming presence, promoting a positive and nurturing environment for learning and well-being. Rufio’s presence at KIS comes with multiple benefits: interactions with Rufio can reduce stress, anxiety, and promote overall emotional well-being, which in turn enhances students’ readiness to learn and retention of information.

Students engage with Rufio through Social and Emotional Learning activities like practicing challenging conversations and recognizing emotions. We have seen that students are more open to sharing their own challenges and thinking about how they can approach them in the presence of our beloved school therapy dog.

Students also practice setting boundaries and expectations when they work with Rufio. Students must respect the expectations about how to interact with Rufio and they can also set their own boundaries for how much they want to interact with him.

We are excited to have Rufio on campus and look forward to his continued interactions with students and members of the KIS community☺️
