On a cold winter day, filmmaker Paula Fouce met a group of Yogis on the bank of the river Ganges. The resulting film chronicles the Yogis of India, including fourteen-year-old Santosh Giri and his guru, Shiv Raj Giri. The boy had decided to join the five-thousand year old path living on the margins of society, following the ancient tradition of wearing only ashes from their holy fires.

When he took the ultimate step and was initiated as a Naga Baba (Yogi) the Yogis permitted filming of the secret ceremony because they wanted the world to know their path and their beliefs. Raman Giri, called Standing Baba, has been standing continuously for twelve years, even in his sleep. These austerities of pain and suffering are practiced by ascetics to overcome their physical body and to realize the Divine.

Others survive on fruit and go on pilgrimages to sacred places high in the Himalayas, traveling barefoot in the snow. Having renounced all material things, they are nevertheless alarmed at the increasing pollution, materialism, and dishonesty, while feeling helpless in the path of modern society. Shiv Raj Giri predicts that despite some 13 million Yogis in India, they are facing extinction.
