ท่ามกลางสายฝนโปรยปราย หญิงสาวหายตัวไปอย่างไร้ร่องรอยคนแล้วคนเล่า หลังจากพวกเธอได้ยิน เพลงต้องสาป ซึ่งเป็นเพลงที่เด็กร้องตอนเล่นเกมยักษ์ปิดตา ครึ่งโยไคครึ่งมนุษย์ คิทาโร่ (เออิจิ เวนต์ซ) พาผองเพื่อนเข้ามาสืบคดีอันลึกลับนี้ ทำให้เขาได้พบกับ คาเอเดะ (คิเอะ คิตาโนะ) มนุษย์สาวมัธยมปลายที่มีส่วนพัวพันกับเรื่องนี้ด้วย

บรรณารักษ์ของห้องสมุดโลกปีศาจช่วยให้พวกเขารู้ว่า คำสาปนี้เกิดจากการปลดปล่อยโยไคชั่วร้ายออกจากผนึก 1,000 ปี คิทาโร่และเพื่อนๆ ต้องการช่วยเหลือคาเอเดะ จึงต้องรวบรวมเครื่องดนตรีโบราณ 5 ชิ้น และทำพิธีผนึกโยไคชั่วร้ายตนนั้นอีกครั้ง โดยต้องทำให้สำเร็จภายใน 48 ชั่วโมง

พวกเขาแยกย้ายกันไปตามจุดต่างๆ ที่แสดงบนแผนที่โบราณ คิทาโร่และคาเอเดะมุ่งหน้าไปยังท้องฟ้าหรือภูเขาศักดิ์สิทธิ์ในเขตฮาโกเนะ แมวสาว (เรนะ ทานากะ) และ เจ้าหนูผี (โย โออิซุมิ) มุ่งหน้าไปยัง แผ่นดินหรือภูเขาทาคาโอะ ส่วน แม่มดทราย (ชิเงรุ มุโรอิ) และ เฒ่าทารก (คันเปอิ ฮาซามะ) มุ่งหน้าไปยังมหาสมุทรนอกชายฝั่งแถบแหลมมิอุระ

เรื่องทั้งหมดนี้เกี่ยวพันกับความรักต้องห้ามอันน่าสะเทือนใจระหว่างมนุษย์และโยไค โยไคที่ชั่วร้ายหลายตนปรากฏกายขึ้นจู่โจมคีทาโร่และผองเพื่อน ไม่ว่าจะเป็น ยาฉะ (โซจีซบ) นูราริห์ยอน (เคน โองาตะ) แม่มดงู (ชิโระ ซาโนะ) และแม่มดน้ำ (ชิโนบุ เทราจิมะ) คีทาโร่จะสามารถปลดปล่อยคำสาปนี้ เพื่อปกป้องคาเอเดะและมวลมนุษยชาติ รวมทั้งเอาชนะโชคชะตาของตัวเองได้หรือไม่

Young women disappear one after another in drizzling rain. They all hear the "cursed song" of the Cage Song before they vanish into thin air. Kitaro (Eiji Wentz) and his friends investigate these mysterious cases when they meet Kaede (Kie Kitano), a high school girl who finds herself involved in this mystery.

With the help from the librarian of Yokai Library, they find out that the curse was caused by an evil Yokai that was released from 1,000 years of sealing. To save Kaede, they are to gather the 5 ancient musical instruments and perform the ritual to seal the evil Yokai again, which has to be done within 48 hours!

Kitaro and his buddies depart for three different points that the ancient map indicates. Kitaro and Kaede head to "sky", the sacred mountain in Hakone, Cat Girl (Rena Tanaka) and Rat Man (Yo Oizumi) head to "land", Mt. Takao, and Sand Witch (Shigeru Muroi) and Old Cry Baby (Kanpei Hazama) head to the "ocean" off the coast of Miura peninsula.

Will Kitaro be able to stop the curse, protect Kaede and the human beings from the evil Yokai, such as Yasha (So Ji-Sub), Nurarihyon (Ken Ogata), Serpent Witch (Shiro Sano) and Watery Witch (Shinobu Terajima)? Will Kitaro overcome his destiny?
