In German-occupied France, Shosanna Dreyfus (Melanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, and meets a kindly woman who takes her in to work at her movie theatre.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as The Basterds, Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich.

Fates converge under a cinema marquee. Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own, when she finds herself in a unique situation when an infatuated German war hero persuades his superiors to screen their latest propaganda film at her theatre. Aware of the plans for the movie premiere, The Basterds are working deep behind enemy lines enact their own plans to throw a wrench in the German war machine.
