ซามาร์ (ชาห์รุก ข่าน) เป็นนายทหารผู้เงียบขรึมที่เลือกทางเดินสายนี้เพียงเพราะต้องการหนีจากอดีตอันเจ็บปวด แต่ในชีวิตที่ดำเนินไปอย่างเคร่งครัดจริงจังตามวิถีชายชาติทหารนั้น ก็ยังพอมีความสดใสร่าเริงของสาวห้าว อาคิรา (อนุชกา ชาร์มา) มาเป็นสีสันให้ชีวิตบ้าง

เมื่อได้ทำความรู้จักกันไปเรื่อยๆ อาคิราก็เริ่มหลงรักซามาร์เข้าแล้ว แต่เขากลับยังจมปลักอยู่กับอดีตที่เจ็บปวดไม่เสื่อมคลาย ย้อนกลับไปเมื่อเขายังเป็นนักดนตรีที่อังกฤษ เขาเคยเป็นชายหนุ่มที่สนุกสนานกับชีวิต และได้พบรักกับสาวสวย มีรา (คาทรินา เคฟ) ผู้ที่ทำให้เขาศรัทธาในรักนิรันดร์ แต่มันคงถึงเวลาแล้วที่เขาต้องเรียนรู้ที่จะอยู่กับปัจจุบัน และเก็บอดีตไว้เป็นความทรงจำ

The introvert Samar (Shahrukh Khan) works in army in bomb disposal squad. It seems that he went through some trauma and his bad experiences are not leaving his mind, body and soul. Samar decides that the only way to forget the pain is to prepare it for bigger things and join the army. There he meets an outgoing tomboy named Akira (Anushka Sharma) who works for a wildlife channel.

Akira starts falling for Samar but he remains lost in his painful past. Back when he is in his late twenties, he is a sociable man working as musician in London. He meets and falls deeply in love with the beautiful Meera (Katrina Kaif) with whom he shares eternity of love and passion of souls entrenched in love.
