สาวรักนวลสงวนตัว ลอเรน (ลอเรน มิลเลอร์) และสาวเสน่ห์ล้นเกินต้านทาน เคที (อารี เกรย์นอร์) เป็นเหมือนขั้วตรงข้ามกันไม่พอ ยังเป็นอดีตคู่อริกันอีก แต่เมื่อทั้งสองต่างก็ขาดเงินมาเช่าห้องสุดหรูในฝันที่ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางมหานครนิวยอร์ก เจสซี (จัสติน ลอง) เพื่อนของทั้งคู่ก็แนะนำให้ทั้งสองคนรู้จักกันอีกครั้ง คราวนี้สองสาวตกลงปลงใจเช่าห้องอยู่ด้วยกันแบบไม่ค่อยเต็มใจนัก
เพื่อนร่วมห้องทั้งสองคนไม่มีอะไรเหมือนกันเลย จนกระทั่งลอเรนรู้ว่าเคทีทำงานเป็นเพื่อนคุยผ่านสายโทรศัพท์คลายเหงาให้หนุ่มเล็กหนุ่มใหญ่ทั้งหลาย เธอจึงขอมีส่วนร่วมในช่องทางการหาเงินงามๆ นี้ด้วย เมื่ออดีตคู่อริกลายเป็นหุ้นส่วนทางธุรกิจ และมิตรภาพก็ดูเหมือนจะงอกเงยขึ้น อยู่ๆ ก็เกิดเหตุการณ์ที่มาท้าทายมิตรภาพเกิดใหม่ของทั้งคู่ซะอย่างนั้น
The reserved Lauren (played by 'Lauren Anne Miller') and the irrepressible Katie (Ari Graynor) are polar opposites - and past enemies. But when both come up short on the funds needed to afford their dream New York City apartment, a mutual friend ('Justin Long') re-introduces them, and they reluctantly agree to room together.
These apartment-mates have nothing in common - until Lauren discovers that Katie is working as a phone-sex operator, and recognizes a good business opportunity. But as their business partnership takes off, their newfound friendship finds unexpected challenges that may leave them both, as they say, hanging on the telephone.

- The Clock - In the year of 1940, the song Gloomy Sunday was known as the suicide song as many suicides recorded were related to it. Listening to this song has led to a French lady committing suicide as well after the death of her boyfriend, a clock engineer at that time. Her soul was not at peace and it returned with the purpose of fulfilling the desires of other victims of depression. Cheata, a girl living with her father and stepmother after her biological mother, Chanda, left the family, is suffering from depression. Every day she suffers mental and physical abuses from her stepmother. Together with her longing for her true mother, this had led Cheata to slip deeper and deeper into depression. Holding on to her mother's photo and listening to her mother's lullaby every night does little to heal her heartache and depression.
