  • โทชิโอะ (คันจิ ฟุรุตาจิ) อาศัยอยู่กับครอบครัวอย่างมีความสุขแถบชานเมืองที่สงบ ก่อนที่การมาถึงของ ยาซากะ (ทาดาโนบุ อาซาโนะ) เพื่อนเก่าจากอดีตที่เข้ามาอยู่อาศัยและคอยช่วยเหลือโทชิโอะ แต่ความสงบสุขนี้หรือจะเป็นเพียงหน้าฉาก จุดประสงค์ที่แท้จริงของยาซากะคืออะไร

  • Toshio Suzuoka (Kanji Furutachi) runs a small metalworking factory in the suburbs. He has a wife, Fumie (Mariko Tsutsui), and a 10-year-old daughter, Hotaru (Momone Shinokawa). They enjoy peaceful days, but Toshio's acquaintance Kusataro Yasaka (Tadanobu Asano) appears. Kusataro Yasaka recently served time in prison. Toshio hires Kusataro and lets him stay at his house. Fumie is apprehensive about Kusataro Yasaka, but she warms up to him after seeing him teach their daughter to play the harmonium.

    8 years later, Toshio discovers a clue about Kusataro.

  • The Clock - In the year of 1940, the song Gloomy Sunday was known as the suicide song as many suicides recorded were related to it. Listening to this song has led to a French lady committing suicide as well after the death of her boyfriend, a clock engineer at that time. Her soul was not at peace and it returned with the purpose of fulfilling the desires of other victims of depression. Cheata, a girl living with her father and stepmother after her biological mother, Chanda, left the family, is suffering from depression.
