เดือนพฤศจิกายน ปี 1918 ไม่กี่วันก่อนสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 1 จะสงบศึก อัลแบร์ เมญาร์ด (อัลแบรต์ ดูปงเตล) ได้ตัดสินใจช่วยชีวิต เอดัวร์ เปริกูร์ (นาฮูล เปเรซ บิสกายาร์ต) เพื่อนสนิทที่ต้องยืนอยู่ในสนามรบเดียวกัน จากเหตุการณ์สังหารหมู่เอดัวร์นั้นได้รับบาดเจ็บอย่างสาหัส แต่กลับรอดชีวิตมาได้จากสงครามที่ยาวนานถึง 4 ปี หลังจากนั้นทุกคนรู้จักเขาในนามชายลึกลับภายใต้หน้ากากที่มีพรสวรรค์ในการวาดภาพ

November 1918. A few days before the Armistice, Edouard Pericourt (Nahuel Perez Biscayart) saves Albert Maillard's (Albert Dupontel) life. These two men have nothing in common but the war. Lieutenant Pradelle (Laurent Lafitte), by ordering a senseless assault, destroys their lives while binding them as companions in misfortune. On the ruins of the carnage of WWI, condemned to live, the two attempt to survive. Thus, as Pradelle is about to make a fortune with the war victims' corpses, Albert and Edouard mount a monumental scam with the bereaved families' commemoration and with a nation's hero worship.
