คืนวันคริสต์มาส หิมะโปรยละอองอันหนาวเหน็บลงมาปกคลุมจนโตเกียวไม่ต่างไปจากผ้าขนสัตว์สีขาวผืนใหญ่ คนเร่ร่อน 3 คน อันประกอบด้วย จิน ชายขี้เหล้า ฮานา กระเทยเฒ่า และ มิยูกิ เด็กสาวที่หนีออกจากบ้าน เฉลิมฉลองเทศกาลแห่งความสุขด้วยกันที่ซอกถนน โดยไม่เอะใจว่าบางสิ่งบางอย่างกำลังจะเกิดขึ้นและเปลี่ยนแปลงชีวิตพวกเขาไปตลอดกาล
เสียงแหลมเล็กดังเสียดออกมาจากกองขยะใกล้ๆ เด็กน้อยตัวเท่าหนอนขดตัวอยู่ในผ้าอ้อม จินบอกกับทุกคนว่า การแจ้งตำรวจเป็นวิธีแก้ปัญหาที่ดีที่สุด เขาแน่ใจว่าเจ้าตัวเล็กนี่คงถูกแม่เอามาทิ้งแน่ๆ

Three homeless people - Gin, a former professional bicycle racer; Hana, a transvestite; and Miyuki, a runaway young girl--are living together in Shinjuku, Tokyo. On Christmas Eve, the three discover a baby girl at a garbage dump.
They head for the brighter parts of the city where people are enjoying holiday festivities, looking for the baby's parents. Their encounters with various people result in adventures that force each of the trio to confront his or her own life, which they've almost thrown away.

- The Clock - In the year of 1940, the song Gloomy Sunday was known as the suicide song as many suicides recorded were related to it. Listening to this song has led to a French lady committing suicide as well after the death of her boyfriend, a clock engineer at that time. Her soul was not at peace and it returned with the purpose of fulfilling the desires of other victims of depression. Cheata, a girl living with her father and stepmother after her biological mother, Chanda, left the family, is suffering from depression. Every day she suffers mental and physical abuses from her stepmother. Together with her longing for her true mother, this had led Cheata to slip deeper and deeper into depression. Holding on to her mother's photo and listening to her mother's lullaby every night does little to heal her heartache and depression.
