Dabing, a water delivery boy who spends his free time and money on cinema, is knocked out cold by an angry girl. When she is dragged away by the police, he agrees to watch her apartment. There he finds a film lovers' paradise, and he uncovers the girl's troubled past.

Born out of wedlock during am outdoor screening, Ling Ling grows up believing that her father is a famous actor. Her mother, abandoned by her lover bacause of the unplanned pregnancy, becomes an outcast. All hopes for a singing and acting career vanich, but she overcomes her traumatic situation and escapes reality by her all consuming love of cinema.

Ling Ling grows up with these wide eyed wonders, shared with her scruffy best friend, Little Bing, who is sent to live with his grandmonther.
