Titta Di Girolamo (Tony Servillo) has retreated from life because of his dark secrets. From his room and the bar of an anonymous hotel somewhere in Switzerland, he silently watches existence pass him by for years while suppressing emotion and sentiment. The unexpected and unpredictable come as provocative circumstances and unanticipated love transformative forces that change him forever.

The story of a stolen life is revealed more in images than narrative, with a visual force that compels the viewer to invade the psyche of human behavior searching for what it hides. Luca Bigazzi’s images are absorbingly emotional. The film was nominated for ten Italian Oscars, winning five for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography.
