Istanbul is a city that spans two continents, but in Istanbul Tales, we recognize that there is no such thing as an East-Wide divide. Istanbul Tales is a film in which Istanbul tells the tale. The film is shot as a single story in five chapters by five directors, each chapter a reference to a classic fairy tale.

A gypsy clarinetist suddenly turns into the Pied Piper the innocent daughter of a Mafia godfather runs into the eighth dwarf in a family of dwarves a call girl transforms into Cinderella a hungry, unemployed man new to Istanbul becomes Prince Charming a young woman locked in a Bosphorus mansion turns into Sleeping Beauty, and Little Red Riding Hood meets the wicked wolf in the brightly lit forest of an international airport.

The people of Istanbul transform into fairytale heroes in a vast panorama. Each of the stories are interconnected. Lives intersect and influence one another. The main character of one tale becomes an extra in another. The moral of it all: fairy tales are the same the world over.
