วันหนึ่ง เคิร์ท ดูสารคดีว่าด้วยการที่โมสาร์ทแต่งเพลงโดยใช้ลูกเต๋าช่วย เขาจึงเกิดความคิดประหลาดว่าจะให้หน้าแต่ละหน้าของลูกเต๋าเป็นตัวกำหนดเส้นทางเดินในชีวิต เกมๆ นี้พา เคิร์ท เข้าไปพัวพันกับสาวขี้ยาชื่อ ทันย่า ก่อนที่โชคจะเริ่มไม่เข้าข้างและพาเขาจมดิ่งสู่ความคลุ้มคลั่ง

Kurt, a 30-something compulsive gambler, has neither luck nor discipline, but when he accidentally sees a TV program on Mozart's Dice Symphony, a musical curiosity in which every possible variation ends up having the same harmony, he devises a system. From that point on, the dice will determine everything he does - which job, which girl, which casino.

But Kurt's belief that the game of life can be played and won becomes an obsession, driving friends away, even the drug-addicted Tanja who represented his best chance for a future. At rock bottom, broke and alone, Kurt makes a list of six possible endings to his story and prepares to roll the die.

Director/writer Antonin Svoboda paints a harrowing portrait of a man whose addiction burns away every good intention, but his interest was not to examine the social or even the moral aspect of this issue; I was interested by what must or can happen so that an essentially despicable character undergoes a catharsis.

To overcome thanatophobia the fear of dying is one thing, but the fear of living also exists. It is at least as terrifying, because whatever you do in life has consequences, and they've got to be dealt with.
