ขณะที่เด็กผู้หญิงขี้เหงาวัย 10 ปี (เบอร์ติลล์ โนล-บรูโน) กำลังเดินทางกลับบ้านจากโรงเรียน เธอพบสุนัขจิ้งจอกตัวหนึ่ง และได้สบตากับมันก่อนที่มันจะหายตัวไป หลังจากนั้น เธอก็เริ่มหลงใหลหมกมุ่นในตัวสุนัขจิ้งจอก ถึงขนาดตั้งชื่อให้มันว่า ลิลี่ เธออยากพบมันอีก และอยากได้มันมาเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยง
เด็กผู้หญิงใช้เวลาว่างทั้งหมด ตระเวนไปทั่วเขตชนบทที่เธออาศัยอยู่ หลังจากเฝ้าติดตามสุนัขจิ้งจอกด้วยความดื้อดึงมาตลอดฤดูใบไม้ผลิและฤดูร้อน ในที่สุดสัตว์ป่าตัวนี้ก็เริ่มเชื่อใจเธอ ทั้งคู่กลายเป็นเพื่อนกัน ได้เที่ยวเล่นด้วยกันไปทั่วบ้านไร่ ทำให้เด็กหญิงตัวน้อยได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับสิ่งมีชีวิต พืชพันธุ์ และฤดูกาล มากยิ่งขึ้น
Coming home from school to her house in the country, a 10-year-old lonely girl (Bertille Noel-Bruneau) spies a fox. Their eyes meet for a moment, then it disappears.
She becomes obsessed with the fox which she names Lily. The girl can't wait to see it again, and - more dubiously - she wants to make a pet of it. The girl spends all her free time wandering in the countryside.
After stubbornly and persistently stalking the animal through the spring and summer, she finally wins the fox's trust, and the two share adventures exploring the countryside around her farmhouse. The girl learns more about more about local creatures, plants and the seasons.
