In 2025 in Paris, police lieutenant David Hoffman (Albert Dupontel) suffers a massive depression, after his wife and partner is killed in a failed attempt to arrest Nicolov (Alain Figlarz), a notorious serial killer.

Hoffman and his new partner Marie (Marie Guillard) now investigates the circumstances behind the body of a young girl named Manon (Melanie Thierry), who was resurrected after a car crash and now has scars around her eyes.

Manon's father Professeur Brugen (Marthe Keller) is a German doctor working on a memory machine called Chrysalis and a plastic surgery whose goal is to go beyond skin and flesh to shape memory and identity. Hoffman finds a link between this technology and Nicolov.
