ตั้งแต่กองทัพญี่ปุ่นเข้ามาครอบครองประเทศเกาหลีในยุคราชวงศ์โชซอน ชาวเกาหลีก็ถูกบังคับให้เปลี่ยนชื่อ และห้ามเอ่ยชื่อประเทศของตัวเอง นอกจากนี้ญี่ปุ่นยังลงพื้นที่ ควานหาเพชรล้ำค่าที่ชื่อ แสงสว่างแห่งตะวันออก ซึ่งว่ากันว่าติดอยู่ที่พระนลาฎของพระพุทธรูปในถ้ำวิหารซอกกูแรม

ในที่สุด พันเอก ยามาดะ (คิมซูฮยอน) นายทหารระดับสูงของญี่ปุ่นที่เพียรพยายามค้นหา แสงสว่างแห่งตะวันออก อย่างไม่ลดละมานานหลายปี ก็ทำได้สำเร็จ เขารีบจัดงานเลี้ยงอำลาให้แก่เพชรนี้ ก่อนเตรียมนำเพชรกลับไปที่ประเทศญี่ปุ่นให้เร็วที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้

บองกู (ปาร์กยองอู) หนุ่มผู้ดีซึ่งแท้จริงแล้วเป็นนักต้มตุ๋นพันหน้าแห่งกยองซอง ต้องการขโมย แสงสว่างแห่งตะวันออก มาครอบครองไว้เอง จึงโน้มน้าวให้นักร้องเพลงแจ๊ซเสียงดี ชุนจา (ลีโบยัง) ไปร่วมงานเลี้ยงอำลาเพชรกับเขา โดยล่อลวงให้เธอตอบตกลงด้วยแหวนเพชรราคาแพง

แต่จริงๆ แล้ว ชุนจา เองก็เป็นขโมยระดับแนวหน้านามว่า แฮดังฮวา หรือ กุหลาบป่าแสนหวาน เธอฝันจะได้เป็นเจ้าของ แสงสว่างแห่งตะวันออก เช่นกัน บองกู และ ชุนจา จึงเริ่มจับมือกันปฏิบัติการชิงสุดยอดเพชรนั้น โดยไม่รู้ตัวตนที่แท้จริงของกันและกัน

Ever since the Japanese stationed in Joseon Dynasty of Korea, Koreans were forced to change their names and forbidden to call out their national name. The Japanese military authorities have been desperately searching for the diamond called Light of the Orient, which was placed on the forehead of the Buddha statue in Seokkuram Cave Temple.

At last Colonel Yamada (Kim Su-Hyeon) the superintendent-general of the Japanese military authorities obtains the Light of the Orient after his tenacious efforts for several years. He holds a farewell party for the Light of the Orient before transporting it to Japan as soon as possible.

Bong-Gu (Park Yong-Woo) who is known as a promising man of wealth is, in fact, the top swindler with 1,000 faces in Gyeongseong. To secure the Light of the Orient, he entices Choon-Ja (Lee Bo-Young), the best jazz singer with her playacting grade of 100 in Gyeongseong, using a very expensive diamond ring. He suggests going together to the farewell party.

But Choon-Ja is also the top thief, Haedangwha (Sweet Brier) who dreams of stealing the Light of the Orient herself. Bong-Gu and Choon-Ja, who don't know each other's true identity, start their respective ambitious operations to secure the expensive diamond Light of the Orient.
