Sultry Los Angeles real estate agent Sandra Dunmore (Patricia Arquette) is married to Jake (Dermot Mulroney), an ad exec with a drinking problem. She is having an affair with his older brother Ben (Don Johnson), a public relations exec, who is enamored of staff underling Peggy Blaine (Mary-Louise Parker), which sends Sandra into a fury. Eventually a crime brings this twisted little circle to the attention of burned-out police detective Rita Pompano (Ellen DeGeneres), who is certain things are not as they seem.
