ฌอง (ออรีเลียง รีโคอิง) และ ลอรี (เมน แมธีรอน) ชาวนาสองสามีภรรยาในแถบเทือกเขาจูร่าในสวิตเซอร์แลนด์ กลายเป็นคนต่อต้านสังคมและไม่พูดไม่จากับใคร หลังการสูญเสียลูกสาวคนเดียววัยเพียง 5 ขวบจากไฟไหม้ ในขณะที่ ฌอง เริ่มทำใจได้ ลอรี กลับปิดตัวเองอยู่กับความโศกเศร้ามากยิ่งขึ้น

Jean (Aurelien Recoing) is a stoic farmer in the swiss Jura mountains. He ans his wife Laure (Marie Matheron),seem overly withdrawn, taciturn, bordering on the severely anti-social until we learn that their only daughter, five years old, was recently killed in a fire that stared in their barn.

Now Jean goes through the motions of trying to keep his beautiful farm in the black while Laura retreats further and further into a shell of mourning.Taking a job at a foundry to make ends meet, Jean meets Labinota (Gabriela Muskala), a Kosovar refugee with her own personal grief to cope with. As winter progresses, all three face decisions about what it means to accept the past and move on.
